Optical transport systems vendor Coriant GmbH says it has successfully installed and commissioned a new national all-optical transmission network on behalf of HEAnet Ltd., which runs Ireland’s national education and research network.
The new optical network provides increased network capacity and enhanced network resiliency to satisfy the ever-increasing data requirements of HEAnet’s client base, which includes some 200,000 third-level students and associated staff as well as approximately 800,000 first- and second-level students and associated staff.
“Enhancing our network resilience enables us to meet the current and future critical needs of our clients,” said John Boland, chief executive, HEAnet.
In addition to the deployment of HEAnet’s fiber-optic network, Coriant will provide maintenance and support services for the infrastructure for the next five years.
“Our advanced optical networking solutions portfolio provides HEAnet with a new level of optical layer efficiency, scalability, reliability, and automation to deliver enhanced service value to its customer base,” said Herbert Merz, president and CEO, Coriant.
