AUGUST 26, 2008 -- XO Communications is providing scalable, high-capacity Ethernet services to the University of Memphis.

As the primary provider of high-speed Internet services for the university, XO Communications delivers high-speed Internet connectivity directly to the campus through its extensive 500-route-mile metro fiber network across Memphis area. The XO offering provides high-speed Internet access over Ethernet, delivering scalable and redundant network connectivity for the college with data-transfer rates up to 1 Gbit/sec to support the growing Internet connectivity requirements.

"As the U. of Memphis expands its research and teaching agenda, high-speed Internet services are vital to high performance research computing in the physical and health sciences, to the students and faculty engaged in our distance learning programs, and to our connection with a variety of community partners," says Doug Hurley, VP for IT, and CIO at the U. of Memphis.

Brian Law, sales vice president for the central region at XO Communications, says, "The increased connectivity from our Ethernet solution will give students, faculty, and administration the increased bandwidth to support the growing collaboration in research and teaching online."
