PVI Systems Inc. says it has partnered with Aefos Inc. to create the miniAVIT Eclipse, which the company asserts is the first fully automated fiber end-face inspection and cleaning system.

The partnership leverages PVI Systems’ existing AVIT inspection equipment and the patented cleaning technology of Aefos. The resulting Eclipse system offers a fully automated, auditable test and clean platform that completely removes all operator subjectivity and inconsistencies in inspection and cleaning process, the PVI Systems says.

The Eclipse is designed to automatically locate, image, inspect, and clean the surfaces of fiber end faces in products, cables, or specialty connectors, such as MIL 38999, MTs, and single fiber connectors (SC, FC, LC, Mu, etc). It inspects the surface to meet IPC-8497-1 or any customer-specific standards and automatically cleans removable contamination. The Eclipse provides a highly reliable, consistent fiber inspection and cleaning, while offering auditable documentation of results for each product tested, according to PVI Systems.

Said John Uzzolino, director of sales and marketing at PVI Systems, “Combining these two proven technologies will redefine the economics of automated test and clean.”

PVI Systems will demonstrate the miniAVIT Eclipse at OFC/NFOEC in Los Angles, CA on March 8-11, 2011 in the Fiber Optic Center (FOC) booth (#1715).
