NeoPhotonics sampling extended-reach 10G GPON XG-PON1 OLT transceivers

NeoPhotonics Corp. (NYSE NPTN) says it is sampling its first extended-each XG-PON1 XFP optical transceiver module for 10G GPON applications. The company also asserts it has tripled capacity for its current OLT transceivers over the last year to help satisfy demand from fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployments in Asia and North America.

The new pluggable XG-PON1 XFP OLT transceiver offers a link budget of 31 dB (ITU-T G987.2 Class N2), 2 dB greater than ITU-T G987.2 Class N1). NeoPhotonics expects the devices to be used to overlay 10G XG-PON1 capabilities on top of existing Class B+ GPON networks with 28-dB link budgets.

“We are excited to announce our enhanced performance NG PON OLT transceiver module for the emerging 10G PON networks that require backward compatibility with existing 1G PON networks,” said Tim Jenks, chairman and CEO of NeoPhotonics. “We have provided samples to customers as they are starting initial deployments of 10G PON networks.”

The new ITU-T G987.2 Class N2 XG-PON1 XFP OLT module joins NeoPhotonics’ existing line of 10G PON transceivers, which includes both ITU-T G.987.2 XG-PON1 and IEEE 802.3av PX30 and PRX30 standards. The portfolio includes Class B+ and C+ GPON OLTs, PX20 and PX20+ GEPON OLTs, multiple ONUs, as well as 10G/1G and 10G/10G EPON OLT and ONU transceivers.
