Apr. 24, 2001--Adept Technology, Inc., a manufacturer of flexible automation for the telecommunications, fiber optic and semiconductor industries, announced the preview of the a new family of high performance distributed motion and vision controllers.

Adept Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADTK), a manufacturer of flexible automation for the telecommunications, fiber optic and semiconductor industries, announced the preview of the Adept SmartController series, a new family of high performance distributed motion and vision controllers at its annual integrator conference in Monterey, California.

The SmartController's network control architecture leverages Adept's SmartAmp technology, dramatically reducing controller size and cabling -- up to 70 percent from Adept's MV controller family. The SmartController's distributed processing architecture improves performance by freeing up 30 percent more of the processor's resources.

The new Adept SmartController Series will be initially launched with the Adept SmartController CS, which will come fully configured for standard applications that do not require vision or conveyor belt tracking. The internally expandable Adept SmartController CX will come with full support for AdeptVision AVI and conveyor belt tracking for sophisticated motion and vision applications. Adept SmartControllers feature several high-speed communication interfaces, including Fast Ethernet and IEEE 1394, also known as FireWire. The IEEE 1394 interface is the backbone of Adept's new distributed controls architecture, initially introduced with Adept SmartModules. All Adept SmartControllers offer known scalability and support for Adept's new IEEE 1394 based digital I/O and general motion expansion modules.
