Net Optics introduces passive non-blocking tap

Oct. 17, 2001--Net Optics has introduced a passive GigaBit 4x1 Tap enabling real-time simultaneous monitoring of a GigaBit fiber network by up to four protocol analyzers, intrusion detection systems or other monitoring devices.

Net Optics has introduced a passive GigaBit 4x1 Tap enabling real-time simultaneous monitoring of a GigaBit fiber network by up to four protocol analyzers, intrusion detection systems or other monitoring devices. Installing this passive Tap enables multiple views of network traffic through a single access point.

The GigaBit 4x1 Tap features breakthrough use of splitter technology that maintains both signal strength and passive link integrity. This is the only Tap available today that enables simultaneous monitoring without blocking signal information.

According to Net Optics' CEO, Bob Shaw, "this Tap enables you to simultaneously evaluate different characteristics of the network data stream. The 4x1 Tap enables concurrent device connections, supporting a complete, real-time picture of network health." Net Optics also offers GigaBit 2x1 and 8x1 Tap configurations to provide additional options for network managers to leverage their monitoring device investments.

As with all Net Optics Taps, the GigaBit 2, 4, and 8x1 Taps work with analyzer and test equipment without disturbing network integrity, so monitoring can occur during business hours. Additional features include half or full duplex transmission support at 1000 Mbps for up to 220 meters of transmission distance, and two load-sharing power supplies. If either power supply fails, the remaining power supply immediately assumes the additional load. As with all Ethernet products in Net Optics' network security and reliability family, these multi-function Taps meet all IEEE 802.3 standards, and are equipped with universal power supplies to support global usage.
