NetTest unveils new module to address ITU-T's G.709 optical testing requirements

March 24, 2004 Utica, NY -- NetTest, provider of testing, monitoring and management equipment for advanced and converged networks, has introduced a new Optical Transport Network Analyzer module for its CMA 5000 Multi Layer Test Platform, designed to address the ITU-T's G.709 recommendation.

March 24, 2004 Utica, NY -- NetTest, provider of testing, monitoring and management equipment for advanced and converged networks, has introduced a new Optical Transport Network Analyzer (OTNA) module for its CMA 5000 Multi Layer Test Platform, designed to address the ITU-T's G.709 recommendation.

The emergence of ITU-T Recommendation G.709, "Network Node Interfaces for the Optical Transport Network (OTN)," has paved the way for a new generation of DWDM transport networks with powerful new capabilities. The new OTNA module has been developed to specifically address testing requirements of the new OTN elements as well as the network as a whole. It is designed to operate at OTU2 (10.71 Gbits/sec) at 1550 nm.

"NetTest is proud to once again provide its customers with this ground breaking solution, enabling them to thoroughly test OTU2 signals carrying SDH/SONET or a diagnostic payload during the installation, commissioning and maintenance of optical networks," contends Lars Pedersen, vice president and general manager, NetTest Instruments Division.

The new module can test with framed and unframed payload, generate errors and alarms, drop and insert traffic, and conduct full OTN analysis on embedded SDH/SONET payloads. The intuitive user interface ensures accurate testing results, saving time and money, say company representatives.
