Telxius deploys Infinera DTN-X XTC Series on SAM-1 submarine cable
Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) says it has supplied its DTN-X XTC Series to Telxius, the global telecommunications infrastructure company Telefónica created early last year (see "Telefónica spins out infrastructure assets to create Telxius"). Telxius has used the systems to support the SAM-1 submarine cable network that links the U.S. mainland, Brazil, and Puerto Rico.
The 25,000-km SAM-1 submarine network is part of a 65,000-km fiber-optic network footprint that Telxius manages. The undersea cable system supports capacity and IP services for service providers who want access to more than 300 million Telefónica subscribers (see "Telefónica Global Solutions adds 100G to SAm-1 submarine and terrestrial fiber-optic networks").
In addition to supporting terabit capacity and Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching, the DTN-X XTC Series platforms simplify network operations with Infinera's Instant Bandwidth capabilities, according to the systems house. "Our customers demand rapid activation of high-capacity services," added Carlos Dasi, CTO of Telxius Cable. "Infinera's Intelligent Transport Network with Instant Bandwidth enables Telxius to offer highly differentiated, on-demand subsea terabit service activation to our customers."
Infinera says that more than 60 customers worldwide currently use the Instant Bandwidth capability.
