Bouygues Telecom to deploy Ciena 6500 Packet-Optical Platform

June 19, 2017
Bouygues Telecom will deploy Ciena's (NYSE: CIEN) 6500 Packet-Optical Platform as part of its "SuperCore" fiber-optic network upgrade initiative. The addition of the packet-optic transport systems also will improve the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of its current backhauling and aggregation infrastructure, Ciena adds.

The deployment will see network capacity increase up to 400 Gbps to accommodate higher-bandwidth services as well as prep the network to enable Bouygues Telecom to enhance its mobile and ISP offerings as well as prepare for future 5G services. The enhancements also will support the service provider's fiber to the home (FTTH) roll outs.

"Modernizing our backhauling and aggregation networks in addition to our SuperCore network is a major evolution of our infrastructure, allowing us to better service our customers and manage bandwidth demands as users become even more data-centric in their device use," said Jean Paul Arzel, directeur réseau at Bouygues Telecom. "Ciena's 6500 platform is an essential part of both our physical network and our service delivery strategy. It helps us operate in a more scalable and efficient manner by maximizing the capacity of our fiber and delivering a core network that will support current and future fixed line and mobile broadband demands."
