China Mobile taps Alcatel-Lucent to enhance mobile service delivery
APRIL 26 2007 -- Beijing Mobile and Guangdong Mobile, two subsidiaries of China Mobile, have selected optical equipment from Alcatel-Lucent (search for Alcatel-Lucent) to enhance mobile service delivery in the municipality of Beijing and the province of Guangdong, according to the systems vendor. The optical transport network infrastructure will help the operators serve the mobile service requirements of China Mobile's subscriber base and provides enhanced traffic backhaul capabilities for service delivery efficiency. The contracts were signed through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's flagship Chinese company.
To enhance customer retention and further increase its subscriber base penetration, Guangdong Mobile is using the Alcatel-Lucent optical equipment to enable a more reliable and flexible optical-based network delivering mobile data services to its end users with higher quality and efficiency, according to Alcatel-Lucent. Besides Guangdong province, China Mobile also deploys Alcatel-Lucent's optical network gear in the municipality of Beijing for mobile service delivery.
"As mobile operators are accelerating the rollout of new, IP-based business and entertainment mobile services, the optical transport network requires even higher degrees of flexibility and backhaul consolidation," stated Romano Valussi, president of Alcatel-Lucent's optics activities. "This new project further confirms Alcatel-Lucent ability to provide optical-data convergent solutions that offer ease of connectivity for fast and efficient service delivery."
The Alcatel-Lucent offering is based on its 1678 Metro Core Connect and data-aware Optical Multi-Service Node systems. The Alcatel-Lucent 1350 management suite -- which enables carriers to manage packet, TDM, and wavelength services -- will supervise the new equipment.
