AUGUST 29, 2006 -- RCN Business Solutions, a transport, Internet, bulk video and voice service provider to the carrier and enterprise business communities, is deploying Turin Networks' (search Turin Networks) Traverse Multiservice Transport Switch in key Metro areas to deliver flexible, high-bandwidth Carrier Ethernet services to business customers.

The deployed Carrier Ethernet applications include multipoint E-LAN, as well as point-to-point Ethernet Private Line (EPL) services at both 10-/100-, and 1,000-Mbit/sec rates with bandwidth flexibility in 1-Mbit/sec increments. These services increase the business group's versatility in delivering tailored service packages to enterprise customers, say RCN representatives. RCN Business Solutions now is able to accommodate an enterprise customer's changing requirements without additional equipment or truck rolls.

"Turin's Traverse enables us to offer new, enhanced Carrier Ethernet services that give us a competitive edge in serving business customers," contends Felipe Alvarez, president of RCN Business Solutions. "With the Turin solution, we can fully leverage our extensive optical backbone network to provide data services that are customized for our clients' particular needs and offer the levels of reliability and end-to-end QoS [quality of service] that they demand."

RCN's new Carrier Ethernet services are powered by Turin's Traverse Multiservice Transport Switch. The Traverse platform, which recently received "Carrier Ethernet Certified" status from the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), unifies Carrier Ethernet/MPLS switching with next-generation SONET/SDH functionality in a single shelf optimized for metro and interoffice deployments, say Turin representatives.

"Turin Networks helps leading carriers like RCN Business Solutions optimize their networks and increase revenues," notes Henry Wasik, president and CEO, Turin Networks. "We are pleased to partner with RCN Business Solutions to improve their ability to deliver new Carrier Ethernet services and to migrate to a packet-optimized transport network."
