Proximus deploys Nokia 7750 SR-14s multi-terabit routers as part of TITAN project

Benelux service provider Proximus (Euronext Brussels: PROX) has made progress on its Terabit IP Transport and Aggregation Network (TITAN) Belgian backbone network upgrade project, reports project partner Nokia. The upgrade leverages the Nokia 7750 Service Router-14s (SR-14s), making Proximus among the first network operators to deploy the Nokia multi-terabit core routers.

Benelux service provider Proximus (Euronext Brussels: PROX) has made progress on its Terabit IP Transport and Aggregation Network (TITAN) Belgian backbone network upgrade project, reports project partner Nokia. The upgrade leverages the Nokia 7750 Service Router-14s (SR-14s), making Proximus among the first network operators to deploy the Nokia multi-terabit core routers.

The TITAN effort will see Proximus upgrade its fiber-optic backbone network capabilities in a staged deployment that runs through 2021. The upgrade process began seven months ago and has seen upgrades to 30% of the fiber-optic network infrastructure and 165 out of a target 600 sites, according to Nokia. The sites and their SR-14s routers are linked via 100-Gbps wavelength capable fiber infrastructure. The upgrade will enable Proximus to boost services delivered via its fiber to the home (FTTH), DSL, and mobile access infrastructures. The FTTH infrastructure is expanding via the Fiber for Belgium initiative.

I'm really proud of the R&D crews and of the project teams of both companies, who did a fantastic job to create the future standards."

Introduced in 2017, the Nokia 7750 SR-14s is designed to support a 144-Tbps configuration in a single shelf (see “Nokia offers new 7750 Service Router, 7950 Extensible Routing System based on multi-terabit FP4 chipset”). It leverages the company’s FP4 chipset, including network processor.
