ECI Telcom adds three NPT platforms under SmartLight SDN umbrella
ECI Telecom last week introduced three new platforms in its MEF-certified Carrier Ethernet 2.0 NPT series. The new additions to the NPT series, which is designed to meet end-to-end metro and cloud networking requirements, fall within ECI’s recently announced SmartLight software-defined networking (SDN) initiative (see "ECI Telecom unveils SmartLight SDN framework").
The three new systems leverage a dual-stack MPLS approach that facilitates the seamless interworking between MPLS-TP and IP/MPLS domains, ECI said. This benefit simplifies the extension of MPLS into the metro, the systems vendor asserts. The result is enhanced service availability and easier service provisioning, maintenance, and control, the company says.
The three new packet transport systems include the NPT-1050, a fully redundant, high-capacity 10 Gigabit Ethernet metro access platform for network edge requirements. The larger NPT-1200 includes more than triple the previous switching capacity (up to 320 Gbps) for metro aggregation. The NPT 1800, designed for the metro core, is scalable to over 1 Tb of switching capacity with 100 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The systems can be managed using ECI Telecom’s LightSoft unified, multi-layer network management system.
"As mobile data and cloud-based services become ever more pervasive, so do the complexities and the challenges faced by the industry. With more and more traffic being pushed into the geographically dispersed large scale metro, the challenges of efficiency and reliability become directly related to profitability," said Alon Moses, head of the Packet Transport Line of Business at ECI Telecom. "ECI prides itself on always staying one step ahead, anticipating market needs and developing products to meet them. The platforms announced today address these challenges and will greatly benefit both existing and new customers."
