OCTOBER 2, 2008 -- USCarrier Telecom (search for USCarrier Telecom) today announced plans to expand its fiber-optic network west to the metropolitan Birmingham, Alabama area.
USCarrier is a Southeastern wholesale provider of high-speed, long-haul fiber-optic transport, connecting more than 40 cities throughout Tier 1, 2, and 3 markets. The surge in demand for high-speed long-haul fiber-optic transport for wireless, Ethernet, and IP applications is pushing the use of fiber and driving USCarrier's growth and expansion, say company representatives.
The network expansion is slated for completion by the first quarter of 2009, and will extend from Atlanta to Birmingham and from Birmingham to Montgomery, Alabama. USCarrier is constructing a metro ring in Birmingham with PoPs centrally located to provide easy connectivity to its carrier customers.
USCarrier says it will offer private line TDM service, which is carried over its scalable long-haul optical transport network. The company provides leased dedicated point-to-point transport with bandwidths from DS1 to OC-192. In addition, USCarrier offers wholesale Ethernet service from 50 Mbits/sec to 10 Gbits/sec. This service provides high-performance dedicated transport service for packet applications such as Internet service, voice over IP (VoIP), video, multimedia, and data transport, notes the company.
"Part of USCarrier's long-term strategic plans has always been to be a leader in meeting the needs of our customers," contends Jack Roberts, vice president of sales for USCarrier. "The reality of the massive demand for our network, coupled with the company's strategy of always delivering quality, reliability, and service is driving the extension of our Southeastern route from Atlanta to Birmingham and Montgomery," he adds. "We are actively expanding our distribution networks throughout the southeastern United States to offer our carrier customers the best network possible at a competitive price."
