Panhandle Telephone Cooperative upgrades DWDM network with Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7120

Panhandle Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (PTCI), which offers high-speed video, voice, data and wireless services to customers in remote areas of the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, will upgrade its fiber-optic network to support 100 Gbps transmission using equipment from Fujitsu. Working with Strategic Authorized Reseller VarData, Fujitsu Network Communications will supply its FLASHWAVE 7120 Micro Packet Optical Networking Platform (ONP) and NETSMART1200 Network Management System for the project.

Fujitsu asserts that PTCI chose the FLASHWAVE 7120 platform because of its ability to add bandwidth and functionality incrementally. The packet-optical transport system combines DWDM and Carrier Ethernet support in a modular “pay as you grow” design that will enable PTCI to add up to 160G in bandwidth and increase fiber capacity by 16X as needed. The NETSMART 1200 system is designed to provide operational simplicity via industry-standard interfaces, monitoring and management tools, and support services.

VarData, meanwhile, will provide a variety of supply chain services. This includes a program through which VarData will buy back legacy equipment to help PTCI meet its network evolution needs and project network performance demands more efficiently.
