CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) says it now offers symmetrical 1-Gbps services to businesses in "select" multi-tenant unit (MTU) office buildings in Houston over a new fiber-optic network.

"Access to super-fast, reliable business broadband service is a determining factor for many companies when leasing office space," said Laura Bacon-Morgan, Houston MTU fiber program manager, CenturyLink. "CenturyLink consults with office building landlords and leasing agents who want to attract sophisticated, technology-driven business tenants. A business can quickly activate Internet service that meets or exceeds its connectivity requirements in a building that is pre-lit with CenturyLink fiber."

The Tier 1 service providers says it can offer businesses connected to its new fiber cable network a variety of services, including Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), wavelength service, Ethernet, and voice over IP (VoIP). CenturyLink will bundle these network services with managed IT offerings. The latter includes CenturyLink Managed Office, a managed services offering that offers end-to-end management of Internet, voice, and cloud-based business applications.

The operator says it now connects more than 300 data centers and thousands of business locations via its 250,000-route-mile U.S. fiber-optic network and its 300,000-route-mile international transport network. Gigabit services for businesses are available in several markets (see "CenturyLink adds PON-based 1-Gbps business services in five states").
