186 Communications, which provides fiber-optic network services in New England, has deployed the ADVA Optical Networking's FSP 3000 packet-optical transport system throughout its fiber backbone.

The emerging services provider operates a 1,000-mile fiber-optic network to serve enterprise clients across New England as well as local, national and global internet providers. The company selected the FSP 3000 for its performance, flexibility, and scalability, ADVA asserts

"Our new network, built on the ADVA FSP 3000, ensures that mission-critical data and vital services are always available. It enables us to achieve outstanding performance at the lowest cost thanks to smart amplifier design, fewer modules and optimized node placement across the network," said Craig Smith, director, network engineering, 186 Communications.

Smith added that the ADVA FSP 3000 will to enable a robust, flexible, and cost-efficient network architecture.

"We're already talking about the possibility of further enhancements, such as ROADM technology and infrastructure management from our network operations center," says John Scherzinger, senior VP, sales, North America, at ADVA Optical Networking.
