ECI touts Southeast Asia packet-optical transport deployment
Optical transport systems vendor ECI says it has earned what it modestly asserts is "an impressive win" in Southeast Asia for its SmartLIGHT line of packet-optical transport systems. ECI declined to name the customer, who will use the company's Apollo and Neptune packet-optical transport systems to build a greenfield network.
The customer will use the Apollo systems in its fiber-optic network backbone and the Neptune platforms closer to the network edge, ECI says.
In addition to the optical transport systems, ECI also will supply its LightSOFT network management system and LightAPPS software-defined networking (SDN) applications (see "ECI Telecom unveils first LightApps for transport SDN"). The customer also will deploy ECI's LightCONTROL SDN controller.
"Introducing additional SDN capabilities, like a centralized, multi-layer PCE [Path Computing Engine] to the underlying intelligent infrastructure, will enable our customers to stay at the forefront of innovation and constantly adapt to the ever changing needs of both their business and residential customers," explained Mickey Wilf, general manager of ECI APAC.
This is the second announced win for ECI's LightAPPS line, following its announcement last month with Sweden's Trafikverket (see "ECI lands LightAPPS SDN applications deal with Sweden's Trafikverket").
