Bhutan Telecom has selected Coriant's hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform as the backbone for its new kingdom-wide DWDM network. The fiber-optic network backbone is expected to enhance Bhutan Telecom's high bandwidth business and consumer services, including 3G, LTE, VPN, and fixed-line broadband Internet access, as the service provider migrates from its existing SDH transmission infrastructure.

Besides its status as a primary provider of mobile telephony and Internet service, Bhutan Telecom is the only fixed line telephony services provider in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Network migration and system deployment were the key considerations in Bhutan Telecom's selection of Coriant. "As the communications needs of our customers evolve," notes Bhutan Telecom CEO Tshewang Gyeltshen, "our new high-capacity DWDM infrastructure will allow us to deliver the service performance and quality they require to maximize the value of reliable broadband connectivity."

The hiT 7300 supports 100G and more per channel, achieves a total system capacity up to 9.6 Tbps per fiber pair via 96×100G channels, and supports up to 25.6 Tbps as part of the company's CloudWave Optics initiative, Coriant asserts. In addition to its end-to-end Transport Network Management System (TNMS), Coriant will provide professional services in SDH network migration, photonic layer planning and design, and network installation and maintenance.
