AtlasEdge names CEO, teams with Digital Realty and Zayo Group
AtlasEdge, a joint venture between Liberty Global and DigitalBridge (formerly Digital Colony) that provides European edge data center services (see “Liberty Global, Digital Colony partner for AtlasEdge Data Centres joint venture”), has named Giuliano Di Vitantonio as its CEO effective January 2022. The company says it also has formed partnerships with Digital Realty and Zayo Group.
Di Vitantonio will join AtlasEdge from Digital Realty, where he served as executive vice president, strategy and business segments. He joined Digital Realty when the company acquired Interxion, where Di Vitantonio was chief marketing and strategy officer (see "Digital Realty completes InterXion acquisition"). His overall technology sector experience extends more than 25 years, including 17 years at Hewlett-Packard and four years at Cisco Systems, where he served as global vice president of marketing for data center and cloud.
“Our collaborative approach is accelerating with today’s announcements and the arrival of Giuliano, who has played a critical role in some of the most successful data center growth strategies in the industry,” commented Josh Joshi, AtlasEdge’s executive chairman. “We are delighted that we have been able to secure a leader of such credibility and caliber to lead AtlasEdge. We believe that demand is quickly moving to the edge to support the requirements for the digital economy, and AtlasEdge will be the default name in European edge infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, the partnerships with Digital Realty and Zayo build upon AtlasEdge’s existing assets, which include more than 100 sites across Europe. The agreement with Digital Realty includes a minority equity investment in AtlasEdge (which led to Di Vitantonio's upcoming new role) and sees Digital Realty select AtlasEdge as its European edge provider. Digital Realty thus will be able to offer AtlasEdge locations to its customers.
Zayo will connect its carrier-neutral fiber network into AtlasEdge technical facilities. Zayo operates a Tier 1 network backbone, with a 126,000 route-mile fiber network across North America and Europe. The new partnerships complement existing relationships AtlasEdge has with Virgin Media O2 in the UK, Virgin Media in Ireland, Sunrise UPC in Switzerland, and UPC in Poland.
