March 8, 2006 Anaheim, CA -- Today at the OFC/NFOEC trade show and exhibition, Lucent Technologies announced three customer contracts for optical networking, as well as the completion of a 40G customer trial in association with OFC.
The contract announcements, according to a press release, are as follows:
* Cavalier Telephone, a provider of integrated local, long-distance, Internet, and data communication services in the Mid-Atlantic region, is deploying Lucent's converged Ethernet technology to enable its Cavalier Broadband TV, an IPTV service offering. The provider announced the roll-out of its broadband TV offering last fall.
* Lucent and its Florida-based sales business partner Solunet announced a deal with Internet service provider Great Works Internet (GWI) of Maine to deploy Lucent's converged Ethernet-over-SONET platform in support of growing demand for advanced broadband services in Maine and New Hampshire.
* Lucent and Taiwan Mobile announced the deployment of Lucent's Metropolis Wavelength Services Manager (WSM) optical networking platform to allow the mobile operator to ensure the reliability of its billing and customer management systems.
Also at the conference, Japan Telecom announced completion of a field trial using Lucent's LambdaXtreme transport system, which simultaneously supports 40-Gbit/sec and 10-Gbit/sec traffic. Supporting live traffic, the trial was conducted in the Tokyo area as part of Japan Telecom's initiative to implement transmission technologies to support multimedia applications. As part of the trial, Lucent demonstrated interworking between its LambdaXtreme system and a high capacity router carrying IP traffic over an OC-768 interface.
