SEPTEMBER 2, 2009 – Ekinops says it now offers a full suite of Fibre Channel storage area networking (SAN) offerings that have been certified as Brocade Data Center Ready.

The Ekinops products are designed to offer a number of advantages over standard SAN approaches. In addition to providing the most commonly used standard SAN Service types and rates (1G, 2G, 4G, and 10G, with 8G following soon), Ekinops says it leverages the capabilities of the Ekinops 360 platform to provide differentiating advantages to service providers:

ring-based add/drop multiplexing of SAN services, allowing wavelength sharing across multiple sites
DynaMux dynamic multiplexing capability to handle any protocol mix over a wavelength or any service type
single-fiber transport capability
Fibre Channel encryption
legacy infrastructure interoperability, so SAN services can be transported not only over WDM wavelengths, but also over an existing SONET/SDH/Ethernet transport infrastructure.

Ekinops says its offering is also ideally positioned as data centers migrate from their current emphasis on Fibre Channel to Ethernet transport, whether that takes the form of Fibre Channel over Ethernet or storage replication using TCP/IP. All Ekinops SAN products allow user-programmable selection of Ethernet or Fibre Channel protocols.
