IslaLink opts for Infinera DTN-X for submarine network
IslaLink S.A., which operates undersea cables between the Balearic Islands and the Spanish mainland, has deployed the DTN-X from Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN), the optical transport systems vendor says. The service provider will use the DTN-X to support the transmission of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit Ethernet services between the islands and the mainland.
"This submarine cable connection is a critical route for us, requiring high-capacity 100G technology with OTN switching and extensive Raman technology," said Ross Mullins, IslaLink COO. "The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network was an ideal solution for this network based on its superchannel technology, terabit switching capability, ease of operation, and high reliability."
The DTN-X leverages Infinera’s photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology to deliver single-card 500-Gbps “FlexCoherent” superchannels. The platform integrates DWDM optical transmission and up to 12 Tbps of non-blocking OTN switching. The DTN-X’s software, meanwhile, automates network operations to reduce both operational cost and service delivery times, Infinera says.
"The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network provides IslaLink a submarine solution that is designed to accommodate the requirements of their cable and delivers on the capacity demanded by their customers," said Chris Champion, senior vice president, EMEA sales. "We are pleased to work with IslaLink to deploy the DTN-X platform on this network."
