QTS Richmond data center campus connects via SummitIG dark fiber
Fiber-optic network services provider SummitIG says it will connect QTS Realty Trust's (NYSE: QTS) Richmond, VA, data center campus with dark fiber. The link will leverage SummitIG's recently completed dark fiber route on the I-95 right of way, which runs throughout Northern Virginia.
QTS provides data center and other fully managed services across the U.S. It owns, operates, and manages approximately 4.7 million square feet of secure, data center infrastructure for a current customer base of 850. The Richmond data center campus is the company's largest.
"Our Richmond campus caters to business customers and government agencies that have stringent requirements and need the flexibility to easily expand their data center space and network capacity," said Mike Salviski, vice president product development, QTS. "We are pleased to be working with SummitIG as it offers our customers the ability to maintain control and achieve increased levels of security and performance. The new fiber infrastructure has the ability to run high-security platforms, distance-sensitive and low-latency applications, and is a perfect disaster recovery solution for Washington, DC, metro."
"We are pleased to connect our dark fiber infrastructure into QTS' impressive 1.3 million square foot Richmond campus," said Sunny Kumar, chief commercial officer, SummitIG. "Our direct route extending north is an excellent fit for many QTS customers who require new fiber infrastructure that is 100% underground and diverse from the legacy infrastructure or are supporting distance sensitive business applications and want to directly interconnect to Ashburn, Reston, or Vienna, bypassing Washington, DC. We are looking forward to delivering unique solutions that provide maximum control, security, scalability, and flexibility to our customers."
