Sumitomo Electric Lightwave unveils LGX-HD patch panels at BICSI Winter 2014

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has expanded its 4th Level Data Center Solutions product range with the addition of LGX and high density (HD) patch panels, which it claims are the industry’s first LGX and HD panels in one.

The new panels are aimed at data-center-network, SAN, and LAN applications. They will be unveiled at the 2014 BICSI Winter Conference and Exposition in Orlando, FL, Feb. 3–5, along with other new 4th Level Data Center Solutions products.

The company says the primary difference from pre-existing patch panels in the industry is that the 4th Level panels can be configured for various module footprints, including LGX, HD, or both in the same panel, as well as other customized configurations. Prior to this product, network installers would have to purchase a separate patch panel for LGX applications and another patch panel designed for their HD connectivity projects.

Available in 1, 2, 3, and 4RU sizes, the 2RU can be configured with up to 288 LC optical connectors. By simply interchanging faceplates and standard cassette products from different manufacturers, installers and network technicians can now experience increased flexibility, versatility in their network design, and hardware cost savings, according to Sumitomo Electric Lightwave.

Bill Charuk, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s product manager, adds, “ Our goal is to listen to our customers’ valuable input and to design the highest quality and most reliable data-center and enterprise network products that keep them ahead of the curve of rapid technology change and the 40G/100G migration. The consistent achievement of this goal has been the foundation of 4th Level’s success.”

Other features of the panels include a user-friendly design with shelf tray tilt or rear slide out for easy cable management access, a new tray stop design that prevents the tray from falling out of the patch panel unexpectedly, rugged construction out of heavy gauge, powder-coated aluminum for extended product life, and mounting brackets that allow forward and backward adjustments within a standard 19-inch relay rack.
