License pact
Coherent Inc., in Santa Clara, CA, and San Jose-based Uniphase Corp. have signed a patent-license agreement and an asset-purchase agreement. Under terms of the patent-license agreement, Uniphase obtained a limited non-exclusive sublicense to a fundamental technology patent in the solid-state area (the Sipes patent). In exchange for the license, Coherent acquired the assets of Uniphase`s diode-laser operation in Torrance, CA.
