DSM Functional Materials Next Generation DeSolite Supercoatings

March 17, 2015
The Next Generation DeSolite Supercoatings are designed to increase production efficiency with faster draw speeds, to work with larger preforms, to create less scrap, and to enable work on different drawing processes for Wet-on-Wet and Wet-on-Dry.
The materials’ ability to enable the fiber-draw process to produce less scrap speaks to its environmental efficiency. The ability to make 200-micron fiber easier to work with in the field allows convenient field use of narrower fiber-optic cables. Judge's Comment.

The Next Generation DeSolite Supercoatings are designed to increase production efficiency with faster draw speeds, to work with larger preforms, to create less scrap, and to enable work on different drawing processes for Wet-on-Wet and Wet-on-Dry.

DSM says that compared to competing solutions, the material offers 4X better secondary coating usage efficiency and 50% better coating cavitation resistance. This supports ease of handling during field applications with challenging fiber types such as 200-µm fibers. The secondary coating surface structure and curing response used by the Next Generation DeSolite Supercoatings help effect a robust inking process and trouble-free inked fiber.
