Managed services provider tw telecom inc. (NASDAQ: TWTC) has introduced metro 40 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit Ethernet business services in the 75 metro areas that it serves. The faster speeds complement its current 2.5G and 10G intra-market Ethernet services.

"The addition of these faster speeds will enable enterprises to more efficiently and effectively connect headquarters, remote offices, and data center locations across the metro for a variety of big data applications," said Graham Taylor, senior vice president for marketing at tw telecom. "We build our Gigabit Business Ethernet Services in direct, point-to-point connections so the infrastructure remains highly efficient, enabling customers to get massive transmission speeds to deploy their equipment and solution anyway they need."

For instance, a large financial services company can use tw telecom's 40G or 100G business Ethernet services for higher-speed connections to meet their growing bandwidth needs and for specific applications like storage management, virtualization strategies, business continuity, and disaster recovery, and for transaction data backup to off-site or data center locations. The enterprise receives immediate benefits that include private, dedicated bandwidth that is 100% secure, with optical ports and the entire wavelength dedicated to its exclusive use.

tw telecom’s Gigabit Business Ethernet Services are designed and built using DWDM technology. This service delivers real-time, predictable performance across the entire transmission path that is exclusive to the customer. The services are lit, fully managed, large capacity metro capabilities for the larger and more sophisticated enterprise customers and public sector organizations.

tw telecom says it is one of the top three providers of Business Ethernet throughout the U.S., according to industry analysts Vertical Systems Group and Frost & Sullivan.
