26 November 2003 Bridgewater, NJ Lightwave -- Hamamatsu Corp. recently introduced two new Receiver Optical Sub-assemblies (ROSAs), the G9282-14 and G9285-14, which it claims feature high-speed response, as well as high gain and sensitivity. The overall performance of the G9282-14 and G9285-14 make them ideally suited for design into optical communications systems such as SONET/SDH, Gigabit Ethernet, and Fibre Channel.
With a response of 1.25 Mbits/sec, the G9282-14 is designed for 1.3-/1.55-mm applications, while the G9285-14's 1.25-Gbit/sec response makes it appropriate for 850-mm applications. The G9282-14 is an indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) PIN photodiode with a preamp that has gain of typically 2.9 V/mW at -22 dBm and sensitivity of typically -1 to -26 dBm. A gallium arsenide (GaAs) PIN photodiode with a preamp, the G9285-14 has typical gain of 2.0 V/mW at -20 dBm and typical sensitivity of 0 to -24 dBm. Both PIN photodiodes feature a conventional f1.25-mm ROSA-type sleeve.
The G9282-14 is priced at $35.00 while the G9285-14 is $35.00 in large quantities. Delivery is 6 to 8 weeks for samples.
