Mintera achieves 10,000 km error-free transmission of 40-Gbit/sec data without electrical regeneration

March 28, 2003--At OFC this week, Mintera Corp. announced that it has demonstrated error-free transmission of 40 data channels operating at 40-Gbits/sec over a record distance of 10,000 km of transmission fiber without electrical regeneration.

March 28, 2003--In a post-deadline paper presented yesterday by Dr. Fenghai Liu at OFC in Atlanta, GA, Mintera Corp announced that it has demonstrated error-free transmission of 40 data channels operating at a bit rate of 40-Gbits/sec over a record distance of 10,000 km of transmission fiber without electrical regeneration.

The breakthrough was achieved with optical amplifier spacing of 100 km and by using all-Raman amplification as well as enhanced error correction encoding.

The company claims this world record is its third in the last twelve months. "We are now able to demonstrate that 40G systems will ultimately be able to span trans-Pacific distances without costly electrical regeneration," contends Benny Mikkelsen, vice president of Systems and Technology.

"During this past year, while many equipment suppliers drastically reduced their R&D spending on advanced programs, Mintera continued to invest in building 40G-based regional and long-haul optical transport products that launch a new wave in network economics," explains chairman and chief executive officer Menachem Abraham. "We achieved impressive transmission test results, developed second-generation 40G technology for ultra-long-haul applications, and continued to expand the executive management team. These strategic investments position Mintera for business success as network traffic continues to grow and as carriers and enterprises resume their investments in infrastructure," he adds.

Mintera was founded in October 2000 and raised $26 million in first-round equity funding in December 2000. For more information, visit www.mintera.com
