TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. company, says it has received an order to upgrade the South-East Asia Japan Cable (SJC) System with 100-Gbps capabilities. This is the third time the submarine network technology specialist has upgraded the undersea cable system, which came online in 2013.

The SJC System connects Brunei, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and the Philippines. TE SubCom says it will deploy its C100U+ technology to add 100-Gbps coherent transmission capabilities to the 8,986-km submarine cable network. TE SubCom expects to complete the upgrade, which will increase network capacity by 6.3 Tbps, by the end of June 2016.

The SJC consortium comprises Brunei International Gateway Sendirian Berhad (BIG), China Mobile International Ltd., China Telecommunications Corp., China Telecom Global Ltd., Donghwa Telecom Co. Ltd. (a subsidiary of Chunghwa Telecom, Co., Ltd.), Globe Telecom, Inc., Google, KDDI Corp., Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (Singtel), PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin, a subsidiary of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk), and TOT Public Co., Ltd.
