Napatech says it has worked with packet-capture specialists ntop to create a 100G line-rate traffic monitoring system for one of ntop's global data center clients. The system is designed to monitor the data center operator's traffic with zero packet loss.

Napatech says thatntop's client wanted a traffic monitoring approach that delivered network performance measurement and security traffic analysis. Its previous system was based on Random Sampled NetFlow, which only provided the data center a fractional overview that the customer found to be unreliable and insecure situation, Napatech asserts.

To meet the need for 100G capacity and 1:1 NetFlow overview, ntop partnered with Napatech, whose 100G accelerators were integrated with ntop's nProbe Cento software. The result was a packet- and flow-centric monitoring approach that improved network security, according to the company.

"By combining the Cento software with a Napatech accelerator, we successfully developed a 100G solution that would ensure zero packet loss while also providing a reliable 1:1 overview of the NetFlow," confirmed Luca Deri, ntop's founder.
