Urban Communications Inc. (TSX VENTURE: UBN) says it has expanded its fiber-optic network in downtown Vancourver, BC, Canada to increase its business services reach. The new fiber cable infrastructure will support delivery of Urban's suite of Urbanfibre-branded offerings, including symmetrical gigabit Internet access, point-to-point network connectivity, hosted PBX, and SIP trunking.

The additions to the service provider's 200-km fiber network – which Urban Communications asserts is the largest independent fiber-optic cable network in the province – include connections to the MNP Tower and Guinness Tower. Urban Communications says it already has customers that want to leverage the new assets.

"Texture is moving into Guinness Tower, and we took the opportunity to upgrade our Internet service," said a representative of Texture.ca quoted in an Urban Communications press release. "Urbanfibre's gigabit Internet was extremely affordable and will scale with our growing office staff and technology needs."

"This latest addition to our network is part of Urban's multi-phase expansion plan to grow our network of commercial buildings across the Lower Mainland," Urban VP, Commercial Sales Geoff Hultin said. "Downtown Vancouver is obviously a key target for business customers and we continue to expand our portfolio of commercial buildings there."

The company says its 200-km network extends across metro Vancouver and Victoria and has a potential serviceable market of 850,000 residential units and 80,000 commercial enterprises.
