Zito Media builds 100-Gbps fiber-optic network ring around Pennsylvania
Zito Media, which provides triple-play services to 110 communities in 16 U.S. states, has deployed a 100-Gbps ring fiber-optic network around one of those states, Pennsylvania. The service provider chose the 360 system from Ekinops for the deployment, according to the systems house (see "Ekinops ships new coherent 100G line cards").
Zito built the network to support the provision of mobile backhaul and other high-speed services to commercial and public sector customers. The operator originally sought to increase bandwidth by aggregating 10-Gbps links. However, it ultimately opted for the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of a 100-Gbps network, Ekinops says.
In addition to the 360 system, Ekinops also will supply a mix of traditional and extended temperature range hardware, including muxponders, amplifiers, and optical multiplexers.
"Our goal has always been to provide our customers with the best possible level of video, data, and voice services," said Randy Vanderheiden, vice-president, engineering at Zito Media. "This high-capacity network is part of our ongoing commitment to technological innovation and the delivery of new and advanced services."
