Windstream expands fiber network routes from Denver
Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN) says it now offers diverse fiber network routes from Denver to Chicago and Dallas. The new routes leverage the DTN-X platform from Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN).
The new pathways begin at the service provider's facilities at 910 15th Street in Denver. From there, customers can access 100-Gbps fiber-optic connections to more than 40 locations, and 1-Gbps to 10-Gbps connections to more than 1,200 locations, Windstream asserts.
Windstream's network touches 33 states, where it provides service to Tier 1 and tertiary markets. The southern route connects to Dallas, which has multiple 100G routing options; the northern route passes through Lincoln and Omaha, NE, with direct connectivity to Chicago.
"A top priority for Windstream Carrier Solutions has been to expand its network backbone in order to become the leading provider of fiber-based, high-bandwidth transport services from our interconnection points in major cities into our unique metro and regional markets," said John Nishimoto, vice president of business development at Windstream Carrier Solutions.
To further that goal, Windstream says that by the end of the year it will be able to provide wavelength services from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps across 121,000 miles of fiber and increase its 100-Gbps service capability to 44 markets.
Those routes likely will continue to leverage Infinera's equipment. The systems house has supplied optical transport systems to Windstream since at least 2014 (see, for example, "Windstream picks Infinera for 100G long-haul express network" and "Windstream, Infinera partner for wavelength transport service expansion").
