The service provider will use the 800-Gbps wavelengths to support the delivery of aggregated 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 400GbE services, says Ciena.

Brazilian wholesale and business communications services provider Vogel Telecom has deployed 800G technology from Ciena (NYSE:CIEN) on its fiber-optic network in São Paulo. The service provider will use the 800-Gbps wavelengths to support the delivery of aggregated 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 400GbE services, says Ciena.

Vogel Telecom operates a fiber-optic network of more than 26,000 km to offer connectivity in more than 600 cities across 13 Brazilian states. The fiber network connects to 70 data centers and more than 600 points of presence (PoPs). In São Paulo, Vogel Telecom has deployed Ciena’s Waveserver 5 platforms outfitted with the technology supplier’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent optics engine to enable 800-Gbps wavelengths. The service provider also will use Ciena’s Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) software to provision, monitor, and manage the fiber network.

“By upgrading to 800G, Vogel continues to cement its position as a leader in high-capacity connectivity services,” commented Daniel Cardoso, chief operating officer at Vogel Telecom. “With Ciena, Vogel leverages this robust next-generation network to competitively scale and deliver high-quality experiences for customers now and well into the future.”

“Ciena’s industry-leading Waveserver 5 optical solution enables Vogel to optimize its network in the face of today’s growing bandwidth demands and fast-changing customer needs,” added Fernando Capella, country manager, Ciena Brazil. “With a smarter and more dynamic network that can adapt, Vogel delivers on its service-level agreements and paves the way for exciting digital experiences in Brazil.”
