Uniti Group offers dark fiber services nationwide

Uniti Group Inc. (Nasdaq: UNIT) says it plans to offer dark fiber services in Tier 1, 2, and 3 markets across the U.S. The company will leverage 31,000 fiber-route-miles infrastructure, composed of 2.2 million fiber strand miles, that span 35 states. Uniti gained ownership of the fiber network infrastructure as part of Windstream’s bankruptcy process (see "Windstream reaches financial restructuring agreement with creditors" and "Windstream completes Chapter 11 restructuring"). The company now has more than 3 million strand miles of fiber on which it can offer dark fiber services.

The fiber network service company says it will offer metro, regional, and long-haul dark fiber via IRU or lease. Conduit infrastructure will also be available in select markets.

“This year has proven more than ever that the need for reliable, scalable networks, and secure connectivity is critical. Our expanded national fiber network will help content and media providers, data center operators, Internet service providers, wireless carriers and other network service providers address their most important needs,” commented Ron Mudry, senior vice president, chief revenue officer of Uniti.

“Changing demand trends and work practices are challenging networks to address rapidly escalating bandwidth demand, increased content streaming, growing remote workforces, rise in virtual learning, and the continued momentum of 5G solutions. I am very excited about the numerous opportunities this new network will provide for our customers to help them grow their businesses and expand their market reach,” Mudry concluded.
