DECEMBER 3, 2007 -- Transmode (search for Transmode) has launched the TG-Series, a passive optical WDM platform, at the 2nd European Next Generation Access Network Forum FTTx in Berlin.

The Transmode TG-series is temperature hardened, flexible, scalable and easily adaptable to the requirements of the "second-mile network," the company says. It is intended for network upgrades, such as Ethernet overlay for PDH or SDH networks, as well as for greenfield installations, including high-security business interconnect and fibre-to-the-curb installations for VDSL networks, amongst others. It may also serve as a first step into WDM networking, providing an easily upgradeable route to an active solution, utilising the TM-Series or TS-Series compact access products, Transmode adds.

"Vtesse Networks, the UK's principal Optical Network service provider, has wide scale deployments of the Transmode TM-Series and TS-Series and found the TG-Series a very useful addition to the portfolio," said Alan Mitchell, Vtesse's CTO (search for Vtesse). "Transmode was able to adapt the TG-Series to give us an optical networking infrastructure that fulfilled our needs for high security whilst still allowing multi customer use."

The TG-series includes rack-based modules for central office or street cabinet use, pig-tail modules where available space is minimal, and environmentally hardened splice enclosure modules for manhole applications. The modules can be tailored to fit particular customer requirements and are fully compatible with the Transmode TM-Series and TS-Series.

"The introduction of high speed services is driving rapid growth in traffic levels and this is driving fibre deployments deeper into the access network" said Magnus berg, Transmode's CTO. "We are proud of our heritage in metro networking and are very pleased to be announcing this extension of our portfolio that together with our TM-Series and TS-Series makes us strongly positioned to support our customers' metro WDM and access networking requirements".
