JULY 2, 2008 -- Fiber-optic connectivity provider AboveNet Communications Inc. (search for AboveNet) today announced that it has installed its 1,000th network node, now part of the company's support for hundreds of private customer optical networks. AboveNet says these nodes support a broad spectrum of protocols, including packet-based protocols like high-bandwidth Ethernet and digital video transmission and storage and mainframe-specific protocols such as Fibre Channel/Escon/Ficon, and traditional SONET/SDH transmission.
AboveNet says it has constructed and now controls some of the most modern, high-capacity fiber assets in the U.S. and London, UK. AboveNet's experience in implementing and operating private WDM networks, its Network Management Center, and solid relationships with major equipment vendors all enable it to offer customers one of the industry's most aggressive service level agreements (SLAs), claim company representatives.
"AboveNet is firmly focused on providing secure, scalable, and low-latency optical networks," reports Bill LaPerch, president and CEO of AboveNet. "Our history of listening to customers' requirements and translating them into unique, flexible solutions allows us to differentiate ourselves from our competition."
