Panama-based Red Centroamericana de Telecomunicaciones (REDCA), a provider of carrier neutral telecommunications services in Central America, has boosted its regional fiber-optic network with 100-Gbps DWDM capabilities with the deployment of the Coriant hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform.

The additional capacity will enable REDCA to enhance its wavelength, Carrier Ethernet, points of presence (POP) interconnectivity, and cloud computing services.

Privately owned REDCA operates and markets the optical ground wire (OPGW) fiber within the power cables owned by Sistema de Interconexión Eléctrica de los Países de América Central (SIEPAC). SIEPAC and REDCA cover more than 2,150 km with the network, which links the power grids of Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

"We are pleased to support REDCA as it expands the capabilities of its regional transport network and enhances the performance of its carrier-class services," said Alberto Barriento, regional vice president, Latin America, Coriant. "With best-in-class technology from Coriant, REDCA is creating a truly innovative telecommunications infrastructure that will have a significant impact on the economic, social, and technological growth of the region."

Coriant says REDCA will leverage the optical transport systems vendor's Transport Network Management System (TNMS) to accelerate service provisioning and reduce operating expenses.
