The new polishing system can simultaneously process six biconic optical connectors. The precision workholder incorporates independent suspension technology providing equalized and controlled polishing pressure at each connector location and accurately maintains material removal to a 0.00005-inch tolerance. The system can measure the critical biconic taper lengths while the connectors are still loaded in the polishing workholder. Taper lengths can be conveniently monitored throughout the polishing process, and inline visual surface inspection can be performed without removing the connectors from the polisher. Therefore, all quality measurements are completed within the polishing workcell. The system can be upgraded to support other industry-standard connectors.krell technologies inc., Morganville, NJ

The Reel Cleaner compact cassette-style fiber-tip cleaner is a densely woven micro-fiber dry cloth cleaning system that accommodates MTP/MPOs, MT-RJs, all single-fiber connector types, and small-form-factor duplex connectors like LC and MU. One squeeze of the ergonomically designed lever advances and exposes the required amount of fresh cleaning fabric for each cleaning. A shutter closes when the lever is released. Anti-static cloth material minimizes contaminant attraction and produces a pristine fiber tip—one swipe produces 0.06 kV of potential. The cleaning fabric is pre-washed and produces <70 pcs/CFM of particles <1 mm in size, making the system suited for any production environment, including cleanrooms, as well as field cleaning. The LTS-9300 life-test/burn-in user-configurable laser-diode system provides flexibility over changing burn-in requirements as well as easy-to-use programming tools for customers to create and maintain their own application software. Totally modular design allows for easy in-the-field upgrades as laser-diode characteristics and test requirements change. The system supports 14-pin butterfly laser-diode packages and allows customization of the temperature-controlled section for new chip-on-carrier versions. Options include relative or absolute power measurement as well as heating-only or heating/cooling systems. The water-cooled option maintains temperatures of 5∞C, even with 16 pump-laser diodes operating at 5 A of current. The life-test/burn-in system also drives high-current peltier elements in high-output pump lasers.ILX Lightwave, Bozeman, MT

The portable, fully functional Mini-OTDR optical time domain reflectometer provides one-button scan and high-speed multiprocessing to allow for simple operation. The user can view a trace for analysis within 1 sec of powering up the unit. The nearly real time response is especially suited for monitoring splice loss while installing or repairing a fiber link in the field in new or existing networks. The system provides a graphic representation of loss versus distance for fiber up to 64 km at single or dual wavelengths, in addition to incremental zoom control and automatic incremental storage. Housed in a rugged, water-tight, handheld case, the unit stores up to 255 traces and has an RS-232 serial port for PC or printer connections.

The OSPInSight Inside Plant Manager-Edit management software tool for premises fiber networks allows network planners and engineers to identify equipment usage levels, wavelength availability , and location details like connection types, floor plans, bays, racks, shelves, cards, and ports, enabling operations managers to improve system planning and maximize system capacity. Network managers can graphically view network ring schematics and associated elements, model complex network components and track the optical layer of the fiber network, ensure key network parameters are accurate, create layers for any passive or active element of the network, and tie all inside plant records directly to the outside plant data.Advance Fiber Optics Inc. The XTU-1 universal subassembly for optical networks features a remote in-band management function that generates alarms toward the central network management system and allows polling of various data on the availability of the fiber-optic line and customer connection from a centralized point of presence. It also performs test functions without additional hardware or external connections at the customer location.

The Access Advantage optical system enables connectivity to homes, businesses, and multidwelling units, including those in hard-to-reach areas, for services like secure high-speed business data, HDTV broadcast, instant video on demand, and high-resolution Internet video games. It supports all fiber-to-the-subscriber (FTTx) architectures, including passive-optical-network (PON) and point-to-point implementations. The system's optical-cable technologies, including air-blowing, optimized DuctSaver FX, and MiDia FX micro-cable designs, use diverse rights of way to connect the service provider to its customers. Also included are the company's AllWave fiber, enabling coarse WDM, and LaserWave multimode fiber. The system supports ITU G983.1 (broadband PON), ITU G983.3 (broadband optical access system with increased service capability by wavelength allocation), and the draft IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM).OFS, Norcross, GA
The etalon-based tunable-laser OEM wavelength-locker module allows the frequency of distributed-feedback (DFB) and distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers to be held to within 1.5 GHz. Designed to operate in the most demanding systems, with 25-GHz channel spacing, the module is suited for integration within telecommunications laser packages and can be configured for rear facet monitoring of a DFB laser or front facet monitoring of a DBR laser. Since wavelength-locker temperature sensitivity is <3 pm/°C, laser performance can be consistently maintained over a wide range of operating conditions. The wavelength locker's physical size is kept to a minimum to allow the integrator maximum flexibility and packaging ease. It is entirely epoxy-free, so problems related to adhesive outgassing are avoided.Spectra-Physics, Mountain View, CA

The singlemode 2Quick SC and ST crimp-style fiber-optic connectors—the same crimp connector technology used for multimode fiber—reduce termination time while assembling quickly, easily, and reliably. The red polymer crimp tube is self-contained inside the metal crimp insert, eliminating the step of threading the crimp tube onto the fiber. In addition, the removal of the cable jacket crimp sleeve means that only two crimping steps are required instead of three. Qualified to meet or exceed TIA/EIA-586B.3 requirements, the connectors can be installed with or without adhesives.

The iTH10-4000 nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) return-to-zero (RZ) chipset electronically converts an NRZ input signal into an RZ output signal, which is then directly amplified by a driver for OC-192 long-haul and ultra-long-haul fiber networks requiring high-quality signals. It supports data rates up to 12.5 Gbits/ sec with superior eye-diagram quality and a power dissipation of <1.5 W and requires an input voltage of just 500 mV to deliver a single-ended data output voltage of 8 Vpp.
