The CRTSC-1 fiber connection extraction tool is designed for the safe and easy removal of SC simplex connectors in areas of densely populated connections. It is also used in repetitive connector removal situations such as in testing environments. The tool head firmly grips onto the SC connector sleeve when its housing is pushed forward via the thumb lever. It can then be pulled and the connector safely removed. A channel on the tool's underside avoids crushing or kinking the fiber. It is ergonomically designed for easy use with one hand and manufactured in a wear-resistant polycarbonate material for long life.Richco, Chicago; www,richco-inc.com
Capable of performing OTN, SONET/SDH, DS- , and PDH analysis as well as jitter and wander measurements, the MP1590A network performance tester is designed with a random error insertion function to perform forward error correction evaluations on transmission equipment at the design and manufacturing stages. The compact PCI card-based architecture allows performance ..testing from 1.5 Mbits/sec to 10.7 Gbits/sec for electrical, 1310-nm optical, and 1550-nm optical signals. For OTN equipment, the instrument can provide performance and jitter testing of OTU-1 (2.66 Gbits/sec) and OTU-2 (10.71 Gbits/sec) in accordance with ITU-T G.709. It can also perform accurate 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10.3-GHz) jitter tests according to the ITU-T standard. Measured results can be displayed in numeric value or graphs so that easy pass/fail tests can be conducted. A wide variety of mappings at 622-Mbit/sec as well as 2.5- and 10-Gbit/sec rates can be analyzed.

A jitter analysis module has been added to the portable software-based Network Information Computer (NIC) modular platform that also combines several other test functions, including OTN, SONET/SDH, T-carrier/PDH, and ATM. Performing output, tolerance, and transfer tests, the jitter module verifies global communications standards from OC-3/STM-1 (155 Mbits/sec) to OC-48/STM-16 (2.5 Gbits/sec) and fully complies with the ITU O.172 standard. It timestamps every edge of a SONET/SDH data stream, thereby removing the many variables associated with phase-locked circuitry found in analog testers. By combining more repeatable and consistent testing with excellent stability for fewer calibrations, the module provides more online time, less measurement time, and higher confidence in the results.

Providing submicron closed loop positioning, the AVS100 series small-profile, precise-motion vertical translation stages are suited for applications like fiber-optic assembly and inspection that require very small incremental movements in elevation above a horizontal plane. Its precise elevation of a load in a vertical plane is done with a moving wedge design. The precision-machined wedge block converts horizontal movement from a precision-ground ball screw to vertical elevation of the stage's tabletop. Linear motion guide bearings are incorporated to provide excellent payload capability, long life, and smooth precision motions. Stable and parallel vertical motion with no rocking or horizontal deviation of the platform is ensured. The vertical lift approach offers an alternative to traditional Z-plane-oriented stages. Available in 6-, 13-, and 250-mm travel models, the stages are equipped with integral limit switches and mechanical hard stops. The stage tabletop is treated with a scratch-resistant Teflon-impregnated hardcoat for protection in harsh environments. A factory calibration option further increases standard accuracy and repeatability.

LaserMOD 2.0, a simulation tool for active semiconductor devices, has added design and simulation capabilities for VCSELs and incorporates a self-heating model. The user-friendly CAD interface provides a new distributed Bragg reflector element to conveniently and intuitively lay out VCSEL structures. The software can perform full 3D VCSEL simulations quickly by taking advantage of the cylindrical symmetry of the device. The self-heating model treats the lattice heat flow equation self-consistently to determine the temperature distribution within the device resulting from such heat sources as Joule, recombination, Peltier, and Thomson heat. Quantum correction models for carrier transport across hetero-interfaces, such as tunneling and barrier-lowering, have also been added. A transfer matrix-based mode solver allows for fast computation of the cavity spectrum of eigenmodes.

For high-density, high-performance applications, the robust LC Slimpack connector is used on dual-fiber, single-jacket, round cable instead of a zipcord duplex cable. The design saves space by .. reducing the number and bulk of cables in a cabinet by a factor of two. Precision ceramic ferrules ensure low insertion loss, low return loss, and high repeatability.
The connector is compatible withall LC adapters—two such connectors cleanly fit side-by-side in one quad LC adapter. A series of unique LC adapters is provided to support the LC interconnection system. Available in singlemode and multimode styles with jacket size of 2.4 and 3 mm (outside diameter), it is fully tested and compliant with the Telcordia GR-326-CORE and TIA/EIA-604-10 standards.
