Colt launches long-haul network services in Japan via Ciena
Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) says it has supplied technology to Colt Technology Services that enables Colt to deliver high-capacity, long-distance services of more than 500 km in Japan. The long-haul links leverage Ciena’s 6500 Reconfigurable Line System (RLS), Waveserver 5 interconnect platform with WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) coherent optics, and Ciena’s Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) domain controller.
Colt deployed the technology as part of an upgrade that more than doubles the company’s long-haul network capacity. “We continue to improve our service offerings on the Colt IQ Network, enabling us to better respond to the explosive traffic demands in Japan and drive faster service launches,” commented Masato Hoshino, representative director and president, head of Asia, Colt Technology Services Co., Ltd. “The Colt IQ Network is designed to provide high-bandwidth, on-demand connectivity, and we continue to deliver on this promise by collaborating with industry pioneer Ciena.”
The Ciena 6500 RLS includes such built-in features as Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP), network auto-discovery, and real-time network monitoring and visibility. The network capacity expansion capabilities include integrated L-Band amplification and ASE noise loading, which enables L-Band operation without affecting C-Band traffic and ore requiring visits or changes to line amplifier sites.
“Throughout Japan, there is a growing ask to support the connectivity needs required to run cloud-based applications and bandwidth-heavy video content,” said Kazuyasu Takahashi, vice president and general manager at Ciena Japan. “Designed with programmability, performance, and scalability in mind, Ciena’s 6500 RLS enables Colt to deploy C&L-band optimized equipment with no service interruptions, empowering Colt to bring the digital universe to its customers faster than ever before despite the distance.”
The two companies previously had collaborated on a 600-Gbps wavelength transmission on the Colt IQ Network in Japan (see “Colt trials 600G over live long-haul network in Japan”).
