Bharti Airtel taps Ribbon for long-haul DWDM network
Ribbon Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: RBBN) says it has won a contract from Bharti Airtel to support the deployment of a high-speed optical transport network throughout Northwestern India. The project will see the installation of Ribbon’s Apollo suite of programmable and open optical transport platforms.
The network deployment will consist of more than 30,000 km of fiber and will support the delivery of cost-optimized 5G mobile backhaul and high-speed enterprise business connectivity throughout the region. The Apollo systems will support a combined network capacity of up to 51.2 Tbps across the C and L bands to enable Bharti Airtel to transport 100GbE/400GbE IP services over 400G optical channels. The service provider also will use Ribbon’s Muse domain orchestration platform for real-time network monitoring and management.
“Airtel continues to push the boundaries in digital service delivery and we’re proud to support their mission with our solutions and expertise,” said Sam Bucci, chief operating officer at Ribbon. “This massive new network will have a tremendous impact as it delivers extensive capacity in one of the world’s most populous countries.”
Bharti Airtel is a longstanding Ribbon customer (see, for example, "Airtel upgrades packet transport network with Ribbon's 5G-Native Neptune systems").
