DELTA Fiber selects Nokia for 400G optical transport network
Nokia announced its selection by DELTA Fiber to provide a 400-Gbps optical transport network for both core and metro applications and support DELTA Fiber’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) rollout in the Netherlands. DELTA Fiber will leverage Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch platforms to support deployment of a new DWDM network incorporating reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers.
“With almost a doubling of traffic each year, we have put in place an aggressive goal to roll out FTTH over the next decade,” says John Wittekamp, chief technology officer at DELTA Fiber. “The new network will address the requirements of exponential traffic growth without compromising reliability and resiliency of the network.”
DELTA Fiber’s core network build, currently underway, will support 19 sites, followed by the deployment of metro sites covering about 75 locations. The deal is part of a broader collaboration to support DELTA Fiber’s expansion plans that includes Nokia supplying XGS-PON access network and customer premises equipment (see “DELTA Fiber plans XGS-PON deployment in the Netherlands”).
