Zayo chosen by global webscale cloud provider for high-capacity connectivity

Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. says that a global webscale cloud provider has chosen it to deliver high-capacity wavelength connectivity between a centrally located U.S. facility and a key data center on the West Coast.

Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: ZAYO) says that a global webscale cloud provider has chosen it to deliver high-capacity wavelength connectivity between a centrally located U.S. facility and a key data center on the West Coast.

The service will deliver "triversity" between the data centers to a longstanding customer, with up to 2 TB of capacity, says Zayo. The otherwise unidentified company selected Zayo to meet its need for an entirely separate, high-capacity route to complete its primary and secondary networks.

According to Zayo, cloud providers demand for diversity at a minimum is growing, and there is a shift toward triversity or quadversity forreliable redundancy. Research and advisory company Gartner forecasts that the global public cloud market will grow approximately 35% over the next two years. To accommodate the demand, providers continue to make investments in redundant fiber and lit fiber-based connectivity between data centers to secure and broaden their infrastructure.

"We were able to secure this contract because of our existing fiber infrastructure, lit fiber-based footprint, and ability to mobilize to complete the project very quickly," said Andrew Crouch, Zayo president and COO. "Earning this business is an important vote of confidence from a long-standing customer."

In July 2017, Zayo announced that it would provide wavelength services to a global cloud service provider (see "Zayo to provide wavelength services to global cloud service company for U.S. data centers"). Zayo also declined to name that global cloud service provider, but revealed that the company has data centers in four of the top markets in the U.S.
