ADVA (FSE: ADV) said that hydropower energy producer VERBUND has deployed the ADVA FSP 3000 AgileConnect to upgrade and future-proof its backbone network. To enable 100Gbps connectivity between its data centers,VERBUND will use ADVA's flexible optical transport technology to increase the capacity of its national infrastructure to 10Gbps, says the company.
The FSP 3000 will enable VERBUND to deliver Austria's electricity through completely renewable sources, according to ADVA. The platform's modular design provides enhanced scalability, along with low power consumption to support VERBUND in ongoing delivery of reliable and sustainable power. Integrated by ADVA's long-term partner SPL Tele, the technology features ADVA's transport layer encryption and is operated by the FSP Network Manager.
According to ADVA, the FSP 3000 has been acknowledged for emissions reduction by the Layer123 judges, and is enabling VERBUND's infrastructure to provide ultra-high capacity, while consuming low power levels. The platform improves the speed of VERBUND's network, as well as streamlines operations as the entire infrastructure is centrally monitored through the FSP Network Manager. The result is straightforward surveillance and maintenance, and accelerated provisioning of new applications, ADVA attests.
The platform's scalable modular design also positions VERBUND to grow from this investment. It features Oscilloquartz's OSA 5420 to enable phase precision and frequency synchronization that next-generation network technologies require. Additionally, ADVA's ConnectGuard security technology has been integrated to assure constant protection of VERBUND's highly sensitive data.
"With the support of ADVA and SPL Tele, we've been able to smoothly transition to a secure, flexible, high-capacity network. This upgrade is crucial to our aims of ensuring vital services are always available for our customers and leading the renewable energy revolution," said Friedrich Haberfellner, VERBUND senior planner. "As scale was one of our main requirements, deploying the ADVA FSP 3000 was an easy choice. Now our optical backbone is future-proof in all directions and can support the latest SAN standards, including 32Gbps Fiber channel. Another crucial advantage is the FSP Network Manager, which controls and assures every element of the system, including our new synchronization network built on Oscilloquartz technology. But the key to the success of this deployment is the support provided by the ADVA and SPL Tele team. Their engineers share our passion for delivering value and building a sustainable future."
Austria-based VERBUND is a large producer of hydroelectricity in Europe, generating almost 95% of its electricity from hydropower and other renewable sources.
