Global Crossing Ltd. (Hamilton, Bermuda) announced an agreement with Lucent Technologies (Murray Hill, NJ) for fiber and equipment for the Pan-European Crossing (PEC) segment of Global Crossing`s planned worldwide network. Under the agreement with Lucent, Global Crossing will be among the first to deploy optical technologies developed at Bell Labs, including the 80-channel WaveStar OLS 400G DWDM system and WaveStar BandWidth Manager. Lucent`s TrueWave reduced-slope optical fiber is also included under the contract, as well as financing for PEC. Construction for PEC has already begun, with several phases scheduled through 2000 and beyond.
