IRON deploys ADVA FSP 3000 in backbone fiber-optic network to close Idaho digital divide
The Idaho Regional Optical Network (IRON) has deployed ADVA Optical Networking's FSP 3000 100-Gbps core fiber-optic network technology in its upgraded backbone network. The deployment will enable IRON to meet the growing bandwidth demand from Idaho's universities, laboratories, health care centers, and research and education (R&E) institutions with 10-Gbps services. IRON also expects the new capabilities will help close the digital divide in rural Idaho.
"When it came to upgrading our infrastructure, ADVA Optical Networking's 100-Gbps core technology offered precisely what we were looking for," said Michael Guryan, general manager of IRON. "One key benefit is the ADVA FSP 3000's plug-and-play simplicity. Integrating the new equipment into our network was straightforward and we were immediately able to deliver upgraded services. Future-proofing was also a vital requirement so we've invested in a solution that can scale alongside rising demand."
According to ADVA, IRON selected ADVA FSP 3000's scalable modular architecture for its backbone network to decrease costs and increase its transport infrastructure efficiency. Higher education institutions and research centers will benefit from faster broadband as the backbone network now supports 100-Gbps transport, enabling technical data transfer and storage objectives in otherwise hard to reach rural regions.
