JANUARY 3, 2007 - Huawei Technologies says its equipment supported the high-traffic demands of the recent Asia Games, held in Doha, Qatar last month.

JANUARY 3, 2007 -- Qatar Telecommunications (QTel), the official telecom provider of the 15th Asian Games, held from December 1 - 15, 2006 in Doha, Qatar, selected optical networking equipment from Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (search for Huawei) to support peak telecom traffic during the event. The Asia Games is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia.

QTel invested in a state-of-the-art, high-speed optical capacity network to support high-definition television (HDTV). Huawei completed the installation ahead of schedule and handled the operations and maintenance services of telecom networks during the Asian Games.

"Huawei is proud to provide Qtel with reliable telecommunication services over the past few years, deploying a high-quality network with strong performance," contends Wang Jiading, vice president, Huawei Technologies, Middle East and North Africa Operations. "We have applied our expertise and worked closely with QTel to ensure networks work smoothly during peak traffic season."

In the Middle East, Huawei's DWDM technologies have been widely adopted in many countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia'Oman, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco, say company representatives. A supplier of NMS, DWDM, MSTP, intelligent optical and network equipment, Huawei was named Optical vendor of the Year for the second year running at the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Awards.
